Special Report: FlexiRoam has chalked up its fifth consecutive quarter of positive operating cash flow, extending the longest cash-generating run since its ASX listing.
The global connectivity provider generated $221,000 from operations in the September quarter, taking its cumulative operating cash inflow over those five quarters to $2.94m.
FlexiRoam (ASX:FRX) recorded unaudited revenue of $2.04m for the first quarter of FY27, up 3% on the revised June-quarter result, with recurring revenue contributing 62% of the total.
That marks a third consecutive quarter above 60% as the business expands connectivity services embedded in banks, airlines and other partners.
Cash finished September at $3.63m, up from $3.54m after $120,000 of capitalised software development spending and exchange-rate movements.
A reset built around partners
The sustained cash generation follows a change in strategy after founder Jefrey Ong returned to the business.
After stepping away as CEO in 2021, Ong was asked back in late 2024 as interim CEO and was appointed CEO in August 2025. The intervening strategy had leaned heavily on spending to win direct-to-consumer travel customers.
“We can’t just keep raising money, burning cash to grow,” he told Stockhead.
His reset focused on the company’s technology and major-brand relationships, embedding connectivity in partners with established customer bases to reduce acquisition costs.
All three Etihad Airways services are operating under a two-year agreement, supplying mobile data for staff, aircraft operational data and pilots’ iPads through monthly subscriptions.
Dragonpass launched its first campaign in September, offering connectivity rewards to new members of a major hotel group. Its two-year agreement adds a distribution channel through the travel loyalty platform.
An Australian payments group has also signed a multi-year agreement. FlexiRoam is preparing deployment and a merchant pilot, with monthly subscriptions earned as payment terminals are connected.
The agreements carry no minimum volume or revenue commitments, keeping commercial execution central to their contribution.
Consumer cash arrives ahead of revenue
Consumer cash sales rose 79% quarter on quarter in US-dollar terms as FlexiRoam targeted frequent and affluent travellers with larger data allowances and longer-validity plans.
Those unaudited, non-IFRS cash sales measure upfront plan purchases after discounts. Revenue is recognised as customers use their plans or the plans expire, with consumer revenue growing 33% during the quarter.
Management estimates about 80% of the quarter’s consumer cash sales will become revenue in future periods. That timing gives the sales increase a contribution beyond the quarter in which customers paid.
Recurring revenue, a company-defined, unaudited non-IFRS measure, comes from banks and partners that offer FlexiRoam data as a benefit and from subscriptions for connected business devices.
After quarter-end, a Big Four Australian bank launched a premium Mastercard benefit, announced on October 5. FlexiRoam receives an annual fee for each eligible card, extending its partner model beyond individual travel purchases.
The company is also negotiating a definitive agreement following a non-binding memorandum of understanding with a global telco.
Its forward priorities are executing partner rollouts, scaling enterprise and recurring revenue, and investing in AI-enabled onboarding and support while reducing network costs.
